DIMAPUR — The Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) issued a statement on Sunday condemning all forms of violence and aggressive rhetoric within the Naga community.

Stating that internal conflicts damage the image of the Naga people and hinder progress, the FNR said, “Once again, Naga political groups (NPGs) and Naga civil organisations (NCOs) are called to critical and analytical reflection within the family, the surrounding neighbours and the present global political makings… Imagining that one group can neutralise others by sanctioning ultimatums is a grave political fallacy. Any form of venomous words to our own is to delude oneself.”

It called for an immediate end to all violent rhetoric of words, actions, statements, etc., and emphasised that adherence to the Covenant of Reconciliation (CoR) is crucial and that any violation of it disrespects the will of the Naga people.

Further, the FNR called for a shift in perspective, urging NPGs and NCOs to look beyond internal disputes and engage with the global political landscape.

“Instead of being miserably caged in from within through perceptions and self justification, know that the public sees us through and through who we are,” it said.

Highlighting the importance of collaboration and interdependence in contemporary geopolitics, it urged Naga groups to “think of our viability within the larger process of democratic ‘independence’ without erasing the ‘Historical and Political Rights of the Nagas’, and act upon it without delay.
