DIMAPUR — Former Finance Minister of Nagaland and former Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president, K Therie, has criticised this year’s Union Budget, describing it as ‘skewed’.
In a press statement, Therie suggested that the budget might have been prepared under duress and claimed that justice and equality have been undermined.
Stating that the promises made to Bihar and Andhra Pradesh appear to be mere rhetoric, he said that the promises regarding NH roads and loans from multinational banks may or may not materialise. CSSs will be implemented at the discretion of the central government, and promises often take decades to be realised.
Further, he stated that loans for the projects to the states will take considerable time to be secured, and even if they are obtained, they will place a burden on the states. The repayment will likely fall on future generations.
He said that the government should not be allowed to function under pressure or fear and mentioned that taxes, cess, and surcharges are all paid by the public for the welfare of the people. The public has authorised the parliament to use these funds judiciously and proportionately for the welfare of the people and the economic growth of the nation.
“This budget has violated the spirit of the Constitution. We will see the wisdom of the Hon’ble MPs,” he said.
