Schools celebrate culture day on Day-4 of Shiksha Saptah

DIMAPUR — Schools all across Nagaland celebrated cultural day on Day-4 of Shiksha Saptah (Education Week) to commemorate four years of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The day was marked by various cultural activities in both government and private schools across the state. The event aims to encourage co-curricular activities as emphasised by the NEP, stated an update from the School Education department on Thursday.

An official event was held at Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Seikhazou, in Kohima district, where students performed folk songs, traditional dances and narrated folk stories of different tribes of Nagaland.

The event was attended by T Abao Kire, former MLA and SMDC member; Medo-o Keretsu, Head GB of Kohima village; Pelesielie Khezhie, chairman of D Khel; SMC/ SMDC members; leaders of D Khel Students’ Union and members of D Khel Youth Organisation.

Speaking at the programme, Temsunaro Aier, mission director of Samagra Shiksha, stated that Nagas have a rich repository of stories, songs, folklore, attire, jewelry. She added that holding a cultural day is a good occasion to showcase them.

Kelhikha Kenye, deputy mission director of Samagra Shiksha, lauded Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire GHSS for being a leading educational hub for Nagaland and attributed it to strong community support and dedicated teachers.

He emphasised the importance of honouring traditions passed down by elders and urged everyone to uphold those values.

Report stated that joint mission directors of Samagra Siksha namely Dr. Chumbeni Murry and Dr. Bijano and Emilo Patton, DEO of Kohima, represented the department of School Education.
