Shiksha Saptah observed in schools across Nagaland
KOHIMA — A week-long Shikhsha Saptah, featuring various activities to mark the fourth anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 on July 29, is currently underway in schools across the state.
The initiative is being organised under the aegis of the Department of School Education. The first day (July 22) marked the Teaching Learning Material (TLM) mela/exhibition in schools.
On the second day, Temsunaro Aier, Mission Director of Samagra Shiksha Mission and nodal officer, Shiksha Saptah Nagaland, led a team of officials from School Education department, State Council of educational Research and Training (SCERT) and Samagra Shiksha, and participated in event held at GMS, New Ministers Hill, Kohima (NMHK) to observe the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) Day.
Kelhikha Kenye, Deputy Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha, highlighted the various activities that would be carried out during the Shiksha Saptah.
He emphasised on the importance of FLN, stating that its goals aim to teach the students on how to read and write with comprehension and understanding by class 3 or when a student reaches 8 years. The FLN also aims to teach the students numeracy.
Kenye also informed that this year too, the state plans to conduct FLN fest on Diksha platform and he encouraged the schools to give their best efforts towards this endeavour.
Yanchibeni, GT, GMS NMHK explained that Shiksha Sapta means ‘Seven days of learning.’ She narrated a story, led the students in singing the NIPUN Bharat theme song and also administered the NIPUN Bharat Mission pledge to the teachers and students.
The school also conducted various activities including storytelling, singing and display of NIPUN learning goals.
Atsei-ü Mechülho, head teacher, GMS NMHK led the event and welcomed the officials visiting the schools.
On the subsequent days, activities such as Sports Day, Cultural Day, Skilling Day, ECO Clubs for Mission LiFE and Community Involvement Day would be held in the schools across Nagaland.
According to the department’s update, a total number of 2315 schools, 15874 teachers and 258683 students participated on the first day with 6720 demonstrations.
