ICAR, KVK organise poultry farming awareness programme
DIMAPUR — The Indian Council of Agricultural Research-National Research Centre (ICAR-NRC) on Mithun, Nagaland, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Goalpara, Assam, organised a one-day awareness programme on scientific backyard poultry under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP).
The event, held on July 11 at KVK, Goalpara, Assam, aimed to raise awareness among local farmers about scientific practices in backyard poultry farming to improve rural livelihoods, according to a press release.
On the occasion, Dr. Santosh Kumar Baishya, principal scientist and head of KVK, Goalpara, inaugurated the programme, emphasising its significance in enhancing rural livelihoods through poultry farming.
Dr. Narendra V N and Dr. Vikram R, scientists from ICAR-NRC on Mithun, shared insights on the introduction and management of poultry farming. They highlighted sustainable practices and effective management techniques.
Later, Dr. Hitu Choudhury, chief technical officer at KVK, Goalpara, concluded the sessions with a discourse on promoting livelihoods through backyard poultry farming, highlighting its potential to uplift socio-economic conditions in rural areas.
The event drew participation from local farmers (53 women and eight men) keen to learn about scientific backyard poultry farming techniques. Poli Saikia and Dr. Narendra coordinated the programme.
