DIMAPUR — Commissioner And Secretary of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (DEFCC), Y Kikheto Sema, has called upon Forest officials and staff to be agents and ambassadors to combat climate change.

Interacting with officers and staff during his visit to the office of the Divisional Forest Officer in Zunheboto on July 12, Kikheto called upon them to work on sensitising and creating awareness among the people for protection and conservation of environment and biodiversity, a DIPR report stated.

Conveying greetings on behalf of the minster of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, CL John, he also urged the staff to always be sincere towards their job and the government.

He emphasised that the DEFCC should work in coordination with district administration and civil societies in changing the mindset of masses for tree plantation and wildlife conservation.

He also suggested that the department should not only work for the well-being of the forests but should also focus on waste management initiatives, reduction of pollution and wildlife protection.

Kikheto further stressed on spreading awareness of wildlife conservation through the churches and cited how the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has dedicated the first Sunday of June every year for the prevention of climate change and bio-diversity conservation.

“We cannot run away from climate change, we cannot fight nature but we have to opt for the sustainable living which is in sync with nature,” he said adding, “We must protect Mother nature for the next generation.”
