DIMAPUR — The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has claimed victory in the recently concluded urban local body (ULB) elections in Nagaland for which the counting of votes was held on Saturday.

“The electoral victory is a humbling experience and we are grateful to the people of the state for your support and solidarity,” it said in a press release on Saturday.

Stating that the high voter turnout was a reflection of public faith in the democratic process, the NDPP extended congratulations to the people of Nagaland for their participation in the elections and acknowledged that the elections were successful due to the support of tribal hohos, churches, civil society organisations, and NGOs.

The party also lauded the efforts of the State Election Commission, the administration, and law enforcement agencies, particularly the state police force, in ensuring the smooth conduct of the elections.

The NDPP placed on record the fact that the realisation of ULBs in Nagaland has been a long and arduous journey marked by significant challenges and sacrifices over the past two decades.

It said that the realisation of the ULBs and the unprecedented achievement of reservations for women is indeed a historic milestone for the Naga people.

Stating that the election is a “collective victory for each and every Naga,” the NDPP assured that it would work tirelessly for the benefit of each and every citizen, irrespective of whichever party of candidate has emerged victorious anywhere.

“We appeal for peace, oneness and unity. Let us all work as one Team Nagaland,” it said.

Further, it lauded all the political parties and their candidates for participating and contributing towards the democratic process and congratulated all the successful candidates, wishing them a successful tenure.

The rank and file of the NDPP congratulated Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and party President Chingwang Konyak for leading the party from the front and for winning the trust and confidence of the people.
