Manipur government denies reports of military reinforcement
IMPHAL — The Manipur government on Monday issued a statement refuting rumours circulating on social media about the deployment of additional central security forces in the state.
The statement, issued by the Officer on Special Duty of the state Home department, clarified that the security personnel who were deployed outside Manipur for the recent Lok Sabha elections are returning to their bases within the state.
Expressing concern over the spread of misinformation, the government urged civil society organisations, media outlets, and individuals to refrain from amplifying such rumours, which could incite public fear and hinder law enforcement efforts.
“It is hereby appealed to all civil society organisations, media (print and electronic) and individuals not to amplify such wrong information that may inflame public sentiments and cause untoward incidents, paranoia, and a difficult atmosphere for law enforcement agencies to operate smoothly and effectively,” read the statement.
The government stated that it would take serious action against those spreading unverified information and panic-mongering through social media and other mass media platforms. Those found responsible for fabricating and sharing such messages will face legal consequences under relevant laws.
“Further, it is to reiterate that the state government is taking all necessary measures to control the current imbroglio and restore peace in the state,” it said, while requesting all concerned to cooperate with the state government in bringing normalcy and peace to the state.
