Veterinary department organises awareness camp in Longleng
DIMAPUR — The department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Longleng division, in collaboration with the Medical department and the Longleng Town Council (LTC), conducted a sensitisation programme on clean meat production and meat borne diseases on Friday at DPDB hall in Longleng town.
Dr. Aoyimsen Jamir, veterinary surgeon, spoke on the sanitation and hygienic management of slaughter areas to ensure clean meat to the consumers after acquiring the animals from the farmers and suppliers, stated a DIPR report.
The stakeholders in the meat business were sensitised on the hygienic management of their retail meat shops which included maintenance of the transport vehicle and equipments used. He also cautioned the meat handlers on the occupational hazards of contracting infections, zoonotic as well as parasitic diseases through meat, if proper personal hygiene and precaution are not followed.
Dr. Limasungle Imchen, epidemiologist from the Medical department, highlighted on the meat borne zoonotic and parasitic diseases and explained how commercial as well as domestic meat handlers at home can be infected with various diseases if hygienic handling and proper cooking of meat is not done.
She also stressed on the personal hygiene and the precautionary measures to be followed while handling meat.
The programme was chaired by VAS (MVU), Dr. Mophe B Phom, and Issac Pongshi from the Longleng Town Council delivered the vote of thanks.
The programme was attended by the registered meat stall owners, poultry dealers and fish vendors.
