ULB elections: More candidates file nominations in Kohima, Wokha
KOHIMA/WOKHA — A total of 41 candidates have submitted their nomination papers for the urban local body (ULB) elections for the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), with the final window for filing nominations closing on Tuesday.
The administrator of KMC and returning officer (RO), T Lanusenla Longkumer, informed Eastern Mirror that a total of 10 nominations were registered at her office in Kohima on Tuesday.
During the day, three candidates from the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), two from the National People’s Party (NPP), and four independent candidates filed their papers.
Of the 10 candidates, three are male and seven are female.
On Monday, 31 candidates had submitted their papers, with 16 from the NDPP, 9 from the NPP, 5 independent candidates, and one from the Indian National Congress. Among the nominees, 12 were female.
Of the total 19 KMC wards, six have been reserved for women for the ULB elections.
It was observed that only one nomination was received from wards 2, 8, 11, and 15, respectively. Unless their candidatures are rejected during scrutiny, the candidates in these wards will run uncontested.
Wokha: In Wokha, 12 more candidates submitted their nominations to the RO of the Wokha Town Council (WTC) on the final day of nominations.
This brings the total number of candidates filing nominations from the 15 wards of WTC to 32, including those in the five wards reserved for women (wards 1, 4, 7, 10, and 13).
The candidates who filed on the last day of nomination for the ensuing ULB elections for WTC are Eyingbemo Murry (NPF), Y. Shalumshan T Tsanglao (NPP), Rentsamo P Jami (BJP), Lily T Humtsoe (NCP), Yanrenthung Humtsoe (NCP), N. Senkathung Tungoe (NCP), W. Myingthungo Kikon (NCP), Nzanthung Lotha (NCP), Santsuthung Murry (NCP), Mhao Ngullie (NCP), T. Woshumo Ezung (NCP), and Rosy Ovung (IND).
The scrutiny of the nomination papers will take place in the office chamber of the ADC and RO, Wokha, on June 13, starting at 9 am. On Monday, 20 candidates had filed nominations for WTC.
Also, 21 candidates have filed nominations from nine wards for the Bhandari Town Council (BTC) elections. Among them, six were females from the women-reserved wards.
