DIMAPUR — The Nagaland GB (Village Chiefs) Federation, expressing its resentment over the killing of New Market GB Abdul Kayum Talukdar on June 7, stated that this is the third GB to be killed in a cold-blooded manner.

It may be mentioned that Talukdar was shot dead at Signal Basti Shaam Bazaar at around 9:30 pm by unidentified assailants.

Expressing concern that a gaon bura elected by the people and recognised by the government could be so easily targeted in a well-administered town like Dimapur, the federation stated in a condemnation note that it does not condone any wrongdoing.

The federation stated that there are laws and competent organisations to take action against anyone who has committed a crime or wrongdoing. Therefore, no excuse for taking someone’s life is justified in this civilised world.

The federation appealed to the concerned authorities to investigate the killing and bring the culprits to justice according to the law. It also urged restraint from taking lives, regardless of the crimes an individual may have committed.

Business Association of Nagas: The Business Association of Nagas (BAN) condemned the murder of New Market GB Abdul Kayum Talukdar, stating that taking a precious life to resolve any matter is not justified.

It stated that committing such a barbaric act in a public place reflects the mentality of certain people in society who will go to any extent to satisfy their greed.

Stating that it is time for the government to take concrete steps to effectively monitor law and order in the state’s commercial hub, BAN appealed to the police to get their act together, apprehend the offenders, and provide justice to the bereaved family.

Linguistic Minority Forum of Nagaland: The Linguistic Minority Forum of Nagaland (LMFN) also condemned and mourned the murder of Talukdar, stating that he was known for his activities and contributions to the New Market area and its community.

In a condolence note, LMFN expressed solidarity with the bereaved family members during this deep crisis and offered prayers for the departed soul to rest in peace.
