Suhel Nair appointed NEUFC U-17 head coach
KOHIMA — An Asian Football Confederation ‘A’ licenced coach, Suhel Nair, has been appointed as the new head of youth development and head coach of the Under 17 team at NorthEast United FC (NEUFC). The club announced this on Saturday.
He joins the NEUFC after being the head of Bengaluru FC’s ‘Grassroots Development Programme’ for three years. There, Suhel was responsible for designing and implementing the technical curriculum for youth development programmes, ensuring player progression pathways at the club.
He has been coaching and heading youth programmes across the country for the past 10 years. He also had a stint leading a coaching programme at a professional club in Canada.
“His understanding of the game, combined with his educational background and coaching credentials, makes him a valuable addition to NorthEast United FC,” the club stated in a statement.
Commenting on his appointment, Suhel Nair said, “I am incredibly excited to join NorthEast United FC and contribute to the club’s youth development efforts. The talent in this region is immense, and I look forward to working with these young players to help them reach their full potential. NorthEast United FC has a strong vision for the future, and I am eager to be a part of this journey.”
The CEO of the club, Mandar Tamhane, who previously worked with Suhel, expressed enthusiasm and observed that his addition to the team is valuable. He added that Suhel’s expertise as a coach educator will be instrumental in enhancing the skills of the youth coaches and simultaneously guiding the coaches in the region.
