DIMAPUR — ‘The Communicator’, a fortnightly newspaper published by the Department of Mass Communication, Nagaland University, Lumami, was officially released on May 29 by Limalenden Longkumer, editor of Mokokchung Times.
In his address, Longkumer expressed his gratitude to the Department of Mass Communication for the opportunity to be part of the launch of the fortnightly newspaper, an update stated. He commended the efforts of everyone involved in the publication and underscored the importance of the department’s work in shaping public opinion in a democratic society.

The editor stressed on the importance of administrative and infrastructural support for the Department of Mass Communication at Nagaland University, and also highlighted on the role of graduates in upholding democratic values and empowering citizens.
Encouraging consistency and quality standards in the publication, he suggested registering with the Registrar of Newspapers for India and transitioning to a digital platform alongside print editions for broader reach.
Addressing challenges in English composition within the community, he urged exploration of solutions. Longkumer also touched on the potential benefits and pitfalls of generative AI, emphasising its role as a supportive tool rather than a replacement for human creativity.
Further, he expressed optimism that ‘The Communicator’ would inspire and positively represent Nagaland University, while redefining perceptions.
The programme, chaired by Rongsenkumla Longkumer, began with a prayer by Salonger. This was followed by welcome speech from Arjun Das, asst. professor, Department of Mass Communication, NU.
Prof. Wangshimenla Jamir, Head of the Department, Geography and dean of students’ welfare, also spoke on the occasion.
Kumjong, the executive editor of ‘The Communicator’, gave a brief note about the fortnightly newspaper.
The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Shivajyoti Das Baruah, asst. professor, Dept. of Mass Communication, Nagaland University.
