Several flights cancelled at Imphal Airport due to cyclone Remal

IMPHAL — The severe cyclone Remal has disrupted air services in Manipur, forcing the authority to cancel six flights at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal on Monday.

Informing this on microblogging site X, the Airport Authority of India (AAI), Imphal airport, wrote: “Update from Imphal International Airport. INDIGO Airlines has cancelled the following flights for Monday, May 27, 2024, due to Cyclone Storm ‘Remal’. Please adjust your travel plans accordingly and contact the airline for rescheduling or a refund.”

The affected Indigo airlines flights for Monday are 6E7713 (Kolkata-Imphal), 6E7947 (Imphal-Dibrugarh), 6E7948 (Dibrugarh-Imphal), 6E7155 (Imphal-Kolkata), 6E7961 (Shillong-Imphal) and 6E7959 (Imphal-Shillong).

The AAI Imphal later shared a photograph of an Air India flight which was scheduled to take off for Kolkata after the resumption of flights at Kolkata.

Meanwhile, Manipur felt the effect of Cyclone Remal with various parts of the state experiencing rain on Monday morning. Heavy rainfall was reported in Chandel and Ukhrul district since Sunday night.”But it stopped in the morning,” said a resident of Ukhrul town.

As per MET Centre data, Ukhrul received 66.2mm rainfall and 65.5mm in Chandel. However, there is no report of any unwanted incidents till the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the officials at Meteorological (MET) Centre in Imphal told this newspaper that the state might receive good rainfall on Monday.
