DIMAPUR — The Peren District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) organised a legal awareness programme-cum-inauguration of legal services clinic at Tening village council hall on May 23.
The legal services clinic was inaugurated by member secretary of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA), Victo Sema, an update stated.
The member secretary of NSLSA, in his address, elaborated on the importance of setting up legal services clinics in villages in a state like Nagaland, where more than 70% of the population lives in rural areas having very little or no excess to district courts, which are located in the district headquarters.
Victo also highlighted that in Nagaland there are at present 133 legal aid clinics, and the legal aid clinic inaugurated in Tening village will be the 134th legal aid clinic.
He said the purpose of settling up the legal services clinic (LSC) is to make justice accessible and to protect the legal rights of the people of Tening circle under Peren district.
He further urged and encouraged the villagers for licit use of the LSC and appreciated the Tening Village Council for its contribution in setting up the LSC.
Delivering the key note address during the legal awareness programme, Wonchibeni V Patton, secretary of DLSA Peren, spoke about the activities taken up by the district legal services authority and how one can avail the free and competent legal services.
Kewithingwang, panel lawyer DLSA, highlighted the various laws which safeguard the legal rights and interest of women, emphasising on maintenance law for women. Italang Ramlia spoke on the various provisions under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012.
Tening Village Council chairman Pelengkeng, expressed his gratitude to the DLSA and the member secretary of NSLSA for their concern shown to a remote and isolated village.
The awareness programme was followed by a discussion and question and answer session wherein Victo Sema and Wonchibeni V Patton responded to the queries and concerns raised by the participants.
The programme was chaired by Asungbe, retainer lawyer DLSA Peren.
