Nagaland Police seize drugs worth more than INR 15 cr. in recent crackdown
DIMAPUR — Nagaland Police have seized more than INR 15 crore worth of drugs in a series of operations conducted over the past three weeks. The seizures, arrests and case registrations are part of the ongoing ‘War against Drugs’ campaign launched by the government of Nagaland.
According to a press release shared by the Director General of Police (DGP), Rupin Sharma, on Facebook, four cases were registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and a total of seven arrests were made in this connection.
As per the details posted on Friday, a total of 178 soap boxes of heroin weighing 2.39 kg and 30 packets of opium weighing 31.215 kg, worth approximately INR 15,82,41000 (about INR 15.82 crore) were recovered during these heists.
“Further, investigation has revealed that the drug trafficking flows have inter-state and international dimensions with linkages reaching up to Assam, Punjab, Manipur and even up to Myanmar,” it said.
It added that the consignment of opium was to be transported to Amritsar and Tarn Taran in Punjab by road.
“A consignment of Shanflower (sunflower- brown sugar) was to be transported to Lahe, (Myanmar), though Kohima, Dimapur, Mon and Lungwa. Origin was from Senapati in Manipur. Four persons have been arrested including 3 Myanmar nationals,” the release stated.
Further, Nagaland Police has appealed to the general public to provide information of sale or distribution of any form of narcotics/drugs etc., to the nearest Police Station or Narcotic Police Station, PHQ, Nagaland, through the ‘MADEIN’ mobile app.
“The identity of the informant shall be kept confidential,” it assured.
A major victory— Patton
Meanwhile, Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, who is also the minister in-charge of Home and Border Affairs, lauded the state police force for the relentless efforts in the war against drugs.
Taking to X on Friday, Patton termed latest seizures as a ‘major victory in our battle against the menace of narcotics’.
“This crackdown is a continuation of numerous other successful operations where kingpins have been arrested and huge drug hauls have been seized. Our police force has sent a clear message that Nagaland will not be a safe haven for drug traffickers and peddlers,” he wrote.
Further, he urged all citizens to stand united with the police force and share any information that could aid the investigations.
“Once again, I salute the dedicated officers who daily put their lives on the line to keep us safe,” he added.
