Advisor urges officers not to succumb to dictate of politicians

DIMAPUR — Advisor of Food and Civil Supplies, KT Sukhalu, has called upon the bureaucrats and other officers in the state to work with sincerity, integration and dedication and not succumbed to the dictate of politicians.

Sukhalu stated this during the felicitation programme of UPSC successful candidates organised by Central Nagaland Women’s Association (CNWA) and Central Nagaland Students’ Association (CNSA) at Hotel Saramati in Dimapur on Thursday. He stated that the state government is seriously concern about the youth as all the qualified educated unemployed cannot be accommodated in the government sector. Compounding to the situation, he mentioned that due to the ongoing political issue, no big companies are ready to invest in Nagaland.

He, however, encouraged the students to work with commitment and determination saying that nothing is impossible for those who want to excel in life. He also asked the parents not to give too much advice to the children as he opined that their life example would reflect on their children.

He pointed out that many Naga youth do not like to work in Nagaland but preferred working in small jobs outside the state because city lives attracts them so much though they get paid less.

Sukhalu recalled how he had raised the issue of police constable recruitment in the state during the assembly session where their eligibility should be class 10 passed and not class 6. He argued that a constable will not remain constable for the rest of his/her life but subsequently get promoted where they would be made to file FIR or charge sheet which would be impossible without minimum requisite educational qualification.

HK Khulu, retired IAS officer, also delivered words of encouragement to the achievers and expressed hope that the younger generation would draw inspiration from them. He also advised them to always stay humble stating that the more humble a person is, they will receive greater respect from the people.

During the programme, UPSC (AIR 431), Tolino Chishi shared about her journey in cracking the UPSC examination. She described as a ‘very long walk through a dark tunnel with no definite exit in sight to find my way out.’ She, however, attributed her success to the grace of God and the unconditional support of her family and loved ones.

She shared that the journey has been quite a learning experience and most of the challenges that she faced during the course of preparation were to do with understanding herself better and learning to manage and work better with her capabilities, strengths and weaknesses.

“If there’s one thing that I wish for our Naga youth, it is that we take the one precious life that we are given seriously, and accord it the importance that it deserves. That we consciously strive to be more aware of ourselves, of our capabilities, our talents and our weaknesses, and set goals and life plans that are best suited to these. That we work hard and try our very best to be successful and good people, so that we may contribute whatever we can to leaving the world a slightly better place,” Chishi said.

Another UPSC (AIR 774), Imsurenla Longkumer, stated that her journey to be a civil servant was not something she aspired for initially. After her studies, she spent several years working with an MNC and an ecommerce start up, which she did really enjoy and learned much about leadership and teamwork.

However, one day she decided to switch lanes and enroll herself to write the UPSC exam to serve the people.

“This decision came by not suddenly, but after a gradual realisation that I sought greater fulfillment in my work, which according to me, would only come through public service,” she said.

She stated that it required much determination and mental grit to persevere despite being faced with many obstacles and failures.

To the students present at the programme, she suggested that it is important to stay in touch with one’s hobbies and interests, which could be quite refreshing in between long stretch of study hours and even enhance one’s productivity.

She also shared that one must know one’s strength, weaknesses and aptitude and carve out a strategy that best suits them in tackling those exams.

She further stated that one should have clarity with respect to their goals and intentions in joining the public service, which are crucial in keeping oneself motivated and propelled towards their goals.
