DIMAPUR — As part of an initiative to promote ethnic identity and traditional weaving, ‘Mekhala Wednesday’ was observed for the first time at the chief medical officer’s office, Wokha, during the community-based assessment checklist (CBAC) training for urban ASHAs on May 8.

Speaking during the training, Dr. Zubenthung Kikon, chief medical officer, Wokha, lauded the urban ASHAs for observing Mekhela Wednesday and wearing mekhelas to their workplace, an update stated.

He also encouraged the urban ASHAs to enhance their communication skills with beneficiaries during home visits in order to gather adequate data for CBAC format. Resource persons for the CBAC training were EchungbeniTsanglao, district community mobiliser and RenbenTsanglao, senior treatment supervisor, RNTCP.

The sessions included topic on identification and sputum collection for tuberculosis cases, awareness on free tuberculosis treatment, data collection for CBAC, detection of non-communicable diseases, mental health, elderly care etc.
