ASU, AWO felicitate HSLC and HSSLC toppers

KOHIMA — The Angami Students’ Union (ASU) and Angami Women Organisation (AWO) on Wednesday felicitated the HSLC and HSSLC toppers and subject toppers from the Angami community under the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) during a programme in Kohima.

Speaking at the event, Kevingoto Kulnu, a revenue officer, provided an update into the official figures regarding the percentage of students pursuing various streams and their employability prospects. He also provided several examples by illustrating the educational landscape in India, noting that about 33% of undergraduate students pursue arts degrees, 15% study science, 13% opt for commerce, while 11% pursue engineering and technology and 4% pursue medical sciences.

He highlighted that the employability rate was 47% for Bachelor of Arts graduates, 51% for Bachelor of Science graduates, 48% for Bachelor of Commerce graduates and 64% for students in engineering and technology fields.

He emphasised that no stream should be deemed inherently inferior or superior. He underscored the importance of acquiring the right skill sets, stating that employment opportunities await students in all fields.

Kulnu also touched upon the impact of artificial intelligence, suggesting that a future may come where humans will compete with super humans, hinting at the transformative potential of technological advancements. He also highlighted the booming market for app development in the country and shed light on new and unconventional courses and emerging professions.

Reflecting on how students’ ambitions are shaped by their subject interests and competencies as well as their career aspirations, he urged the students to remain focused and dedicated as they pursue higher education.

He stressed that failure does not necessitate loss but rather provides valuable learning experiences, fostering wisdom and growth.

Kulnu also underscored the significance of hard work and perseverance, saying, ‘Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.’

As many students prefer to pursue further studies outside the state, he appealed to be ambassadors of their people and culture.

Congratulating the successful candidates, Jalesoü Yhoshü praised them for making their community proud with their outstanding performances and urged them to continue striving for excellence in the future.

Yhoshü also emphasised the importance of choosing their careers wisely at this crucial juncture and encouraged them to inspire others with their success stories.

Ketsino Jane Frances, HSLC top 2, expressed gratitude for the honour and attributed their success to God’s grace, support of teachers and parents. She further sought their continued encouragement and support even in the days to come.

Rev. Fr. Megoriekho Thomas, assistant priest of Kohima Cathedral, invoked God’s blessings upon the students, while the scripture reading was led by Kevinguno Meyase and a song was presented by Menuolhousie Tsükrü.
