Wokha Police apprehend woman for assaulting child
DIMAPUR — Wokha Police has apprehended one Zubeni Ovung for assaulting a child suspected of stealing eggs and a suo moto case has been registered against the perpetrator under sections 323 and 324 of the Indian Penal Code R/W Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
According to a DIPR report, as informed by Additional Superintendent of Police and Public Relations Officer, K Soriso, they received information from a reliable source alleging that a child had been physically abused and upon receiving this information, a team from Sanis Police Station swung into action and took the juvenile into their custody and sent him to the community health centre in Sanis for a medical checkup.
A subsequent medical report confirmed that the child had suffered injuries to his left and left lower limbs, which were believed to be the result of bamboo sticks. Furthermore, the Child Welfare Committee, which arrived in Sanis town on April 13, took the juvenile into their custody.
It was learned that the child is being housed at the Founding Children’s Home for rehabilitation. The victim’s father stated that he is not willing to file an FIR but will leave the matter to the law enforcement agency for any follow-up action.
Accordingly, the authorities took cognizance of the case and took the alleged accused into police custody.
LYOEE condemns assault on minor
Meanwhile, Lotha Yingsüng Olongo Eloe Ekhung (LYOEE) has condemned the alleged physical assault and torture of a minor child.
In a condemnation note, the LYOEE said that “such a barbaric act” has no place in this civilised generation. It further warned of initiating stern action against anyone who commits such a heinous crime in the future.
