DIMAPUR — The Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) has extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and relatives of Lieutenant General K Pokho, a member of the National Defence Advisory Board (NDAB) and in-charge of the GOC, Eastern Command.
According to a condolence note issued by Gen. (Retd.) Viyalie Metha, Kedahge of the FGN, Pokho passed away on April 10 at his native village, Pathso Noking, in the Khiamniungan region, after a prolonged illness.
It stated that Pokho joined the National Defence Service on July 25, 1976 and served in various capacities for the nation until his death, and that he was a recipient of the ‘Victory Cross’, ‘Military Cross’, and ‘Hero Award’ in the National Defence Service.
It said that his demise has created a great vacuum and that his patriotic deeds and sacrificial services rendered to the nation will always remain alive in the history of the Naga nation.
It prayed that God grant peace and solace to the bereaved family members, relatives, and dear ones, and that the departed soul may eternally rest in peace.
FGN Midan Peyu, Khiamniungan Region, Eno Pusha also mourned the demise of Pokho and described him as a patriot who survived all the twists and turns of the Naga national movement, from the early days of trekking to China for training and arms procurement to surviving the violent clashes in the course of the Naga journey.
He said that Pokho’s unwavering lifetime dedication and sacrifices for the nation will forever be remembered and cherished in Naga history.
PNVC: The Pathso Nokeng Village Council (PNVC), in its condolence note, stated that Pokho dedicated nearly five decades to the cause of the Naga nation with resilience and determination.
“His unwavering dedication has left an indelible mark on our collective history and we are profoundly grateful for his sacrifices and courage,” it read, adding that his legacy will forever be cherished and honoured.
PNSU: The Pathso Nokeng Students’ Union (PNSU), in its condolence message, expressed that Pokho, a faithful warrior, devoted his life to the Naga political cause and lived an exemplary life.
It noted that his unwavering commitment to the emancipation of the Nagas is unparalleled in the history of revolutionary movements in the region, and highlighted that his contributions to the Naga nation will be fondly remembered and cherished by its people for generations to come.
The PNSU extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed to the Almighty to grant solace to them and all grieving near and dear ones during this time of sorrow.
PRSU: The Pathso Range Students’ Union (PRSU) also expressed condolences on the passing of Pokho.
“He was a man of principle who stood steadfast for the integrity of the Naga nation till his last breath. He was 73 as he breathed his last,” read the condolence message, and noted that his tall leadership with sheer values and legacies will always be remembered in their hearts and in the history of Nagas’ struggle for self-determination.
