Augmenting Formal and Traditional Education Centre launched at Choklangan

DIMAPUR — An Augmenting Formal and Traditional Education Centre (AFATEC) was launched on Monday at Choklangan village, Noklak, by Neema Pathak Broome, coordinator of the Conservation and Livelihoods Programme, Kalpavriksh, and the South Asia coordinator for the ICCA Consortium.

The mission was implemented by Lemsachenlok, Longleng, in collaboration with Khelia Cubicle Society, Choklangan, according to a press release.

Delivering the welcome address on the occasion, Pakhiu, second head GB of Choklangan village, thanked the Lemsachenlok team led by Dr. Y Nuklu Phom for their contributions since 2019 in launching the Biodiversity Peace Corridor II and more. He urged the public to continue advocating for and supporting his noble deeds for the village.

Nuklu stated in his speech that the mission’s objective is a community initiative aimed at fostering the habit of studying among students. He expressed gratitude and requested that the villagers support the Khelia Cubicle Society in maintaining the school house.

He clarified that the school house project is not funded by a government agency but is instead a collaborative effort between Lemsachenlok society and the Khelia Cubicle Society, Choklangan.

Notebooks were also distributed to the students on the occasion.

Broome, in her launch speech, emphasised the significance of education imbued with wisdom as both a tool and a weapon for effecting positive change. She urged and challenged the youth to become beacons of participation in the preservation and awareness of their local flora and fauna. Additionally, she encouraged villagers to cultivate self-sustaining livelihoods by fostering love, compassion, and unity among themselves.

During the programme, the Community in Restoration of Fallow and Abandoned Land (CIROFAL) was also inaugurated. The event was attended by council members, church leaders, student leaders, parents, students, and various other organisations from the village.
