Trainings for polling personnel held, scheduled across districts
DIMAPUR — The first phase of training for presiding officers and first polling officers in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections was conducted on Wednesday at Dimapur Government College, Dimapur.
According to a DIPR report, officers from Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Nuiland participated in the training.
Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Election Officer (DEO) of Dimapur, speaking on the occasion, said that by offering comprehensive training on crucial subjects, election officials are proactively ensuring that presiding officers and first polling officers are equipped with the essential skills and knowledge to efficiently oversee polling stations and maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
Mhalo Humtsoe, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) Dimapur-II, expressed her gratitude towards the presiding officers and first polling officers for their contribution to the democratic process. She emphasised the importance of the collaborative effort put forth by the officials from the three districts.
She encouraged the trainees to seek assistance from the master trainers whenever necessary.
Key topics covered during the training session included setting up electronic voting machines (EVMs) and establishing proper connections to ensure their correct functionality during the election, conducting a mock poll to verify the proper functioning of the EVMs, procedures for sealing EVMs and voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines with different seals to uphold the integrity of the voting process, understanding the sequence of events from the commencement to the conclusion of polling, including proper procedures for sealing polling materials, and training on handling EVMs during the voting process to minimise disruptions and ensure a seamless voting experience for citizens.
A total of 1,196 presiding officers and first polling officers participated in the training, with 256 being female and 940 being male.
Peren: The second day of the first round of training for second and third polling officers for the forthcoming 18th Lok Sabha Election, took place at three different venues in Peren town—Town Hall, PTWWO Hall, and the Old Catholic Church building on Wednesday.
During the training, resource persons briefed the participants about their roles and responsibilities as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI). The trainees were instructed on setting up polling stations, the operation and appropriate use of EVMs and VVPATs, as well as filling out election duty certificates.
Additionally, hands-on training was provided to the trainees to familiarise them with EVMs. The training session saw the participation of over 500 trainees.

The first phase, second phase, and third phase of training for polling personnel are scheduled for March 28, April 9, and April 15, respectively, at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Mon, from 10 am onwards.
All polling officials have been instructed to submit a photocopy of their EPIC card/service ID and two passport-size photographs during the first phase of training to obtain the EDC/ID card.
The respective heads of departments have been directed to inform all officials of their respective departments who have been requisitioned for duty accordingly.
