DDCF urges NFR to alleviate plight of passengers
DIMAPUR — Highlighting the hardship faced by travelers at Dimapur railway station, the Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum (DDCF) has sought immediate intervention of the divisional railway manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Lumding division, to provide amenities particularly at platform No. 2 and 3.
In a representation to the divisional railway manager, Lumding division, through the Dimapur railway station master, DDCF pointed out that basic amenities for passengers are missing at platform No. 2 and 3. The organisation stated that those platforms are without chairs, roof/ shed and passengers -young and old, men and women, have to stand and wait under the scorching sun and rains as there are very less number of seats and shelter.
DDCF also stated that there is only one foot bridge that connects to those two platforms, for which passengers are often put into the danger of crossing over through the railway tracts in case of sudden change in departure platform.
It reminded that Dimapur railway station, which was inaugurated in 1903, caters to passengers not only from Nagaland but Manipur and neighbouring Karbi Anglong of Assam.
It recalled the visit of Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, NFR general manager, to Dimapur railway station on September 22, 2023, and took stock of the station to be re-developed under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. He also thoroughly inspected the plans of new station building, crew lobby, foot over bridge, platform and other passenger amenities works.
In light of the above stated circumstances, DDCF urged the divisional railway manager to look into the grievances of the travelers by immediately constructing shelter, provide chairs at platform No. 2 and 3 and to construct another foot bridge at the South-western section of the station for the welfare of the travelers.
