INC candidate demands action on Naga political issue
MOKOKCHUNG — Affirming his commitment to deliver justice to the people, the president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) and Indian National Congress (INC) candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Nagaland, Supongmeren Jamir, on Friday sought solution to the Naga political solution basing on ‘Action not words.’
The INC candidate for the lone Lok Sabha seat from Nagaland stated this during a press conference held at Sangtemla Hall in Mokokchung. He has assured to pursue and bring to fruition on the two agreements namely the Framework Agreement and Agreed Position, if elected to power. Jamir assured to push forward the issues at the highest level for an amicable solution at the earliest.
He accused the BJP government of suppressing the Christian minority by introducing contentious reforms such as Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He cautioned the CAA, which was passed in the Parliament under Modi’s leadership will be an indirect threat to the state of Nagaland.
“If those refugees are given citizenship, then the state government will not be able to stop this influx flow of newly acquired citizenship entering the state,” he said.
He warned that if the Modi’s government is voted to power for the third time, then they will push forward a uniform civil code, which would pave the way for “One religion, one language, one country” agenda.
In this connection, Jamir stated that the Congress will fight against anti-secularism, which is a serious threat for the Naga people, and stand to protect the customary and religious rights of the people. Stating that PDA is part and partial of the BJP, he urged the Naga people to support the secular party in the parliamentary election. He also expressed hope that NPF supporters will stand for secularism.
Jamir informed that the Congress party will contest the parliamentary election not with money power but by abiding on clean and fair elections.
“We are going to fight the election against 60 MLAs but Naga voters are wise enough to cast their vote in favour of Nagas in general and on the slogan Nagaland for Christ,” he asserted.
Speaking on the ENPO core committee decision, he stated it was an expression of resentment against their genuine demand for rights and development as well as the inaction of the Modi’s government to deliver before the parliamentary election.
“The agitation of ENPO is genuine and they have every right. They deserve to get their rights and facilities, their due rights should be given. The Congress is ready to identify their genuine demands any time,” the INC candidate said.
He also informed that the Congress manifesto will be released right after the nomination is completed. He, however, stated that they have put forward key agenda in the context of Nagaland to the high command. They included to increase the reservation for SC & ST in central jobs, including reservation of central jobs for Nagas and intensive entrepreneurships and farming facilities for Nagas.
He further assured that if the INDIA bloc comes to power, this five commitment made by Rahul Gandhi would be fully implemented.
