Rhythm of Love: In conversation with Hermanas

DIMAPUR — Hermanas, a four-member all-girls band from Noklak district, is driven by the motto ‘towards perfection.’

The band shared that the name  derived from the Spanish word ‘sisters.’

Formed in 2018, the exclusive female band reflects on their six-year musical journey in today’s Rhythm of Love

EASTERN MIRROR: How long have you  known each other? How did you all meet?

Hermanas Band: We have known each other since our high school days. Our band was officially formed in 2018, and we had the opportunity to perform as a band at the Mini Hornbill Festival in Noklak.

After that, our school, Christian High School, Noklak, provided us with opportunities to perform as a band with our teaching faculty at various events.

EASTERN MIRROR: For the record, could you  introduce us and the role you play in Hermanas?

The band lineup consists of Lengniu C on main vocals and guitar, Chongtie Lamthio on bass, Lumo Lam on drums, Lumo as a backing vocalist, and our band manager Pongkhao.

EASTERN MIRROR: How does the song writing process works for you? Do you have any influences?

As of now, we haven’t composed any songs ourselves, but we have sung some original songs with the help of our band manager and supporters, Mr. Tupong and Mr. Okie. We are working on our original songs and hope to release them in the near future.

EASTERN MIRROR: In every music genre there are bands that are just a simple duplicate of another band. What do you consider as the USP of Hermanas?

We began singing at a young age, inspired by our brother’s band, the Frolic Band Noklak, who guided and taught us with simple chords.

We primarily play gospel, folk tunes, and soft rock. The simplicity of our melody and voices could be considered the USP of our band.

EASTERN MIRROR: Working as a group may not  be easy especially with each individual having different ideas and taste. How do you work it out? Any issues you have faced initially?

As a Band, we do have different views and taste in music but we try our best in scrutinising and selecting songs that will be the best for us as a group.

Of course, we had a very hard time since we were all beginners in music but gradually, we learned from our mistakes and coped up with those issues.

EASTERN MIRROR: Share with us your musical memories. What makes it special?

So far we had performed in some big stages such as Miss Kohima and Miss Chümoukedima, and many more. We had a memorable and fun filled journey.

The energy that every member brings towards the band is incredible. We try our best in optimising every opportunity we get in an effective way which also makes the band special.
