KOHIMA — In view of the uncertainty looming over eastern Nagaland due to the ‘public emergency’ enforced by the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) over its demand for Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT), the Konyak Union (KU) has urged to ensure sufficient stock of essential supplies during the period.

In an ‘urgent notice’ issued ahead of the announcement of Lok Sabha election schedule on Saturday, the Konyak Union asked the business community and the public of Mon district to take immediate action to ensure sufficient stock of essential supplies at petrol pump, gas agency, grocery store, dry ration and other commodities.

Cautioning that the situation could deteriorate, the union said it is necessary to be prepared for any eventuality that may arise.

“We call upon and advise you to maintain an adequate supply of goods and implement measures to ensure the continuous availability of essential items despite any potential bans or disruptions that may meet the needs of the community during this challenging time,” read the notice.

Further, the union urged the business establishments for a “proactive approach in this matter during the uncertain times”.

The notice came against the backdrop of the ENPO’s resolution not to participate in any central and state elections if the Centre’s offer for creation of FNT was not settled by the Government of India through the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) before the announcement of election Model Code of Conduct to the Lok Sabha 2024, as reportedly assured by the Union Home Minister on March 7, 2023.

Upholding its earlier resolution passed at Chenmoho, the ENPO in a statement issued on March 15, said that it would not accede to any assurance made by the MHA after the upcoming Parliamentary election process.

Meanwhile, a delegation of Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU) is currrently camping in New Delhi over the FNT issue.
