DIMAPUR — Expounding on the important role of teachers in imparting quality education, the chairperson of Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), Asano Sekhose, called upon the teachers to understand the need of competency-based education and deliver the expectation of the learners.

Delivering the keynote address at the meeting of newly appointed head of institutions held on March 14 at the platinum hall of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC), Bayavü Hill, Kohima, Sekhose stressed that teachers must be eager to learn and keep up the performance of the schools not only in academic performance but do it differently as per the goals of education in line with the NEP 2020.

She stated that education for 21st century aims to translate and enable students to become lifelong learners, instill in students desire to learn, unlearn and relearn.

She extended golden jubilee greetings of the board to all the participants, which would be held on the theme “Ever evolving and redefining.”

The meeting was chaired by Rangumbuing Nsarangbe, secretary of NBSE, wherein he welcomed all the head of institutions, while an invocation prayer was said by Brother MK Derassy from Monfort School, Baghty, an update from NBSE stated.

Dr. Bendangla, associate professor at SCTE and resource person, spoke on the topic ‘Role and responsibilities of the head of institutions in the implementation of NEP 2020. She dwelt on the roles and responsibilities of the head of institutions such as curriculum reforms, community engagement, collaboration and communication, infrastructure and facilities, assessment, autonomy and accountability, strategic planning, technological literacy and integration.

In conclusion, she stated that the head of institution as school leaders should lead by example. She further requested the heads to be school leader and not to be school manager.

In the second session, NBSE chief coordinator of IT highlighted on different IT matters of the board such as the different whatsApp groups district-wise, centre superintendent, financial literacy groups, NBSE portal, data collection software, social media (Facebook/Twitter) and different IT interventions that are taking place in the board.

Report stated that a total of 160 head of institutions from all the sixteen districts of Nagaland attended the programme.
