DIMAPUR — The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Union, Dimapur (ENPUD) has extended support to the decision of the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) to impose indefinite shutter-down in Dimapur, if the unabated multiple taxation and intimidations meted out to the business community by various Naga political groups is not stopped immediately.

In a press release, the ENPUD maintained that the menace of multiple taxations and harassment to the business community have deeply affected every household, every individual and day-to-day livelihood activities of the poor people in particular and Dimapurians in general.

The union said that the public is bearing all the burden of price inflation of essential as well as non-essential commodities due to rampant taxation imposed by the Naga political groups.

It urged the different Naga political groups, as “responsible entities,” to address “this serious issue” for the welfare and betterment of the citizens of Dimapur.

The ENPUD also insisted that the Naga political groups should instead try to create a peaceful and business-friendly environment in Dimapur so that the safety and security of the businessmen is guaranteed and the development and growth of Dimapur is ensured.

It further urged other Dimapur-based civil societies and organisations to support the DCCI in its endeavour to stop the menace of multiple taxation so that Dimapur city becomes a vibrant business hub, which will prove beneficial to Dimapurians in particular and Nagas in general.
