Nagaland University hosts talk to promote electoral awareness
DIMAPUR — Nagaland University (NU) hosted a talk titled ‘My vote, my right’ on Wednesday, in alignment with the Government of India’s campaign ‘Mera pehla vote desh ke liye,’ at the university’s headquarters in Lumami. The aim was to promote awareness and understanding of the electoral system in India.
According to a press release, vice chancellor Jagadish Kumar Patnaik attended the event as the chief guest and spoke on the intricacies of the electoral system in India. He shed light on the significance of each citizen’s role in shaping the nation through the democratic process.
The programme also featured speeches by Mithilesh Kumar Sinha, who discussed the fundamental principles of democracy and the constitution and H John Sema, who offered insights into the voting traditions of Nagaland.
Dr. Nezanhuo Golmei presided over the event, which concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Suraj Beri.
The press release also mentioned that in the preceding days, the university conducted related activities. On March 4, it organised a signature campaign and on March 5, a voter’s pledge ceremony was administered.
