Nagaland: SUMAN launched at Bhandari CHC

DIMAPUR — Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan (SUMAN), an initiative of the Government of India to provide free services while ensuring dignity and respect of pregnant women during child birth, was launched at Community Health Centre (CHC), Bhandari, Wokha district, by Longdiba L Sangtam, additional deputy commissioner of Bhandari on Friday.

Addressing the launching programme, the ADC urged the civil society leaders to create awareness in their community so that people can avail the free services, which focus on maternal health and newborn child, and update stated.

Resource person for the programme Dr. Chonbenthung Ezung, medical officer of Yimpang PHC, said that beneficiaries covered by the scheme are pregnant women and children below one year.

Dr. Ezung also informed about the various services covered by SUMAN including free ambulance service, diet, family planning services and free laboratory testing for the beneficiaries.

Chief medical officer of Wokha, Dr. Zubenthung Kikon, said that SUMAN volunteers will be selected for among the civil society leaders to disseminate information on SUMAN. The programme was chaired by Dr. Caroline T, senior medical officer, Bhandari CHC, and Dr. Thungchanbeni Patton, DIO Wokha, proposed vote of thanks.

The event was attended by DPO (NCD), DAPCU, medical officers, church leaders, civil society leaders, ASHAs, anganwadi workers, beneficiaries and medical staffs.
