KOHIMA — Spanish forward Néstor Albiach has signed a contract extension with NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) for another season. The announcement of the extension was made by the club on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old, who joined the club in July 2023, had an impressive debut season in the Indian Super League, scoring 6 goals and providing 3 assists in all competitions. He made the switch to NEUFC from Rayo Majadahonda during the summer transfer window.
“His goal-scoring ability and playmaking skills have undoubtedly made him one of the most crucial assets for the team,” the NEUFC said in a statement.
“I am extremely happy to continue my journey with Northeast United FC. The club’s ambitions are clear, and I am proud to be a part of such an ambitious project. The support from the coaching staff, my teammates, and the fans has been incredible, and I am excited about what the future holds for us,” Albiach commented on the move.
“Néstor has been exceptional throughout the season. His impact on and off the field is setting a positive example for his teammates. We are thrilled to extend his contract, and we believe he will continue to play a vital role in the success of NorthEast United FC,” head coach Juan Pedro Benali said.
The CEO of the club, Mandar Tamhane, expressed confidence in Nestor’s contract extension, stating, “Nestor has performed very well for us and we are thrilled to extend his contract. This emphasises our commitment to building a strong foundation for the future of NorthEast United FC by trying to keep the core of the team together.”
