Jotsoma youth trained on poultry farming

DIMAPUR — Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kohima, in association with State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema, along with National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad, conducted a skill training of rural youth (STRY) on poultry rearing and management from February 7 to the 13th in Jotsoma village under Kohima district.

The inaugural programme was chaired by Dr. Ruokuovilie Mezhatsu, principal scientist and head KVK, Kohima, who also encouraged the trainees to skill themselves with the technical knowledge and put into practice sincerely.

While briefing about the programme, the training course director and assistant chief technical officer (Animal Science), Dr. Paihem Michui, informed that the six-day programme was aimed at imparting skill-based training on poultry production to rural youth in compliance with National Policy on Skill Development and Entrepreneurship 2015 in agriculture and allied areas to promote employment in rural areas.

An update from KVK Kohima informed that the sessions covered a range of topics under poultry production including scope and opportunities for poultry entrepreneurship development and poultry based integrated farming system by using different modules.

Besides, skilled-based exercise through active participation and involvement of the trainees and feed formulation by using locally available feeds ingredients and vaccination in poultry were demonstrated to the trainees.

The training culminated on February 13 with Rudolie Nagi, chairman of Jotsoma village council, as the guest of honour. Nagi encouraged the trainees to make good use of the skilled acquired from the training.

It stated that certificates were distributed to all the 16 successful trainees. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks pronounced by Puchono Kweho (Agronomy).
