Roundtable in Imphal examines invasive species, climate change
IMPHAL — The inaugural roundtable discussion on invasive alien species (IAS) and climate change in Manipur, aimed at developing a database information system for IAS and examining its correlation with the changing climate scenario in the state, was held in Imphal on Saturday.
The roundtable discussion was organised by the Media Resource Centre at the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change.
The objective of the discussion was to assess and document the IAS in relation to the changing climate scenario in Manipur, with the goal of reporting on IAS, managing the IAS database, developing a road map, strengthening the research network on IAS, and publishing a report.
The majority of the speakers and experts at the event emphasised the importance of documenting IAS in Manipur, developing a database, understanding its socioeconomic and environmental implications, and establishing a proper regulatory mechanism, among other things.
