2 from Manipur conferred Arjuna Award 2023

IMPHAL — Naorem Roshibina Devi and Pukhrambam Sushila Chanu, along with 24 other sportspersons, were conferred the Arjuna Award 2023, on Tuesday.

The 23- year-old Wushu sensation Roshibina Devi won India’s first silver medal in Wushu (Sanda division) at the 19th Asian Games held in China last year. She also won a silver medal in World Wushu Championship, USA, and a gold medal in the Moscow Wushu Stars championship in Russia, in 2023.

On the other hand, 31-year-old former captain of Indian national hockey team (women), Sushila Chanu, won a bronze medal at 19th Asian Games in China besides another bronze medal at the 22nd Commonwealth Games in UK in 2022, and a gold medal in the FIH Nation Cup in Spain in 2022.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh acknowledged Roshibina’s dedication and hard work, noting that her success has showcased the exceptional prowess of athletes from the state.

“You have proved the mettle of our state athletes with your hard work and dedication. Best wishes for your endeavors ahead,” Biren wrote on X.

Similarly, sharing a video clip of Sushila getting the award in his X account, Singh wrote, “You have carried forward the legacy of Manipur’s sporting capabilities with your hard work and dedication, inspiring thousands more to follow the lead. Wishing you all the very best in your future endeavours.”

The awards were handed by President of India Droupadi Murmu.
