DIPHU — The stage is set for the grand golden jubilee celebration of Karbi Youth Festival (KYF), the oldest ethnic festival of Northeast India, at Taralangso, from January 12 to 19. Being the golden jubilee celebration year, the Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) is working hard to make the celebration a grand success.
The organising committee informed that the President of India, Draupadi Murmu, would attend the celebration on January 17.
Another attraction will be the participation of 1500 individuals in the Kengdongdang pen kehat (walking on bamboo poles) demonstration, which is set to create a record in the Guinness Book of World Records.
On December 28, the executive member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAC) and general secretary of the reception committee of the KYF golden jubilee celebration, Richard Tokbi, inspected the ongoing preparation at various sites.
Tokbi inspected the preparation works at the market complex, parking area, and Rongbong complex, where separate houses are constructed for Karbi traditional kings and subordinates (Pinpos) of Ronghang Rongbong, Chinthong Rongbong, Amri Rongbong and Dumra to stay, campsite and other areas.
He was accompanied by the assistant secretary of KCS and convenor of construction committee, Daniel Bey.
The eight-day festival will be completely plastic-free as polythene bags and plastics will not be allowed to be use inside the complex, the EM said. Bey told the Eastern Mirror that all construction works would be completed by January 6, 2024.
Bey informed that Draupadi Murmu would arrive on January 17 at 12 noon at Taralangso to witness the festival.
He informed that a new mega open stage ‘Rangsina Sarpo Open Stage’ has been constructed for the President’s visit.
He further informed that Governors and Chief Ministers of Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh would accompany the President.
