WOKHA — Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton on Thursday appealed to the people of Wokha district to work together cohesively for social and economic uplift of the district.

The deputy CM said that the society and the district will only progress through the mantra of togetherness and sense of belonging, adding the people need to give back to the community cheerfully.

Patton was addressing the golden jubilee celebration of Wokha district held at local ground, Wokha town.

Congratulating the people on 50 years of districthood, he also acknowledged the leaders who worked collectively for attainment of the district.

Terming the completion of five decades as a major landmark and achievement in the odyssey of a district, he called upon the congregation to take time in acknowledging the pioneers through whose effort, sacrifices and vision, the district has come thus far.

On reports of irregularity of heads of departments posted in the district, the deputy CM asked the deputy commissioner of Wokha to send such errant officers on ‘voluntary retirement.’

He also urged all the department heads in the district to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity, contributing to progress and development.

He further called upon the people of Wokha to retrospect on wrongs committed in the past, correct them and look ahead to a bright future.

Earlier, Patton released the souvenir and also unveiled the monolith commemorating 50 years of Wokha District at the new DC office complex, Wokha town.

Advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan; Mhonbemo Humtsoe, MLA; Achumbemo Kikon, MLA, and former MLA, SS Ezung also spoke on the occasion. They urged the citizens of Wokha to rededicate their lives for the welfare and progress of the district.

Chairman of Lotha Hoho, Mhondamo Ovung and president of Lotha Officers’ Association, K Libanthung Lotha, also shared jubilee greetings.

Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, delivered the welcome address.

Later in the evening, a musical extravaganza was held, which was attended by, Commissioner of Nagaland, T Mhabemo Yanthan, as the special guest.
