Motorcycle club from Sikkim holds charity event
DIMAPUR — Members of Dirty Angels Motorcycle Club (DAMC) from Gangtok in Sikkim, who are in Kohima for the Hornbill Festival, organised a charity event by providing ration and stationeries to 90 residents of Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home at Seithogei in Kohima.
An update from the club stated that the members have extended financial assistance towards the home to celebrate the upcoming Christmas.
Meanwhile, the club has expressed gratitude to the Gorkha Public Panchayat, Kohima (GPPK) for identifying the home and for their valuable presence. The club also thanked the caretaker and the kids of the home for organising a memorable musical programme.
It mentioned that DAMC is a non-governmental organisation based in Gangtok district of East Sikkim, which was established in the year 2010 and the first registered motorcycle club of Sikkim.
The organisation was formed by eminent local Samaritans, state and central government employees. The prime objective is to reach out to remotest villages of Sikkim and carry out social uplif and economic development projects related to health and hygiene, agriculture, promoting education, social welfare activities, awareness programme etc. in collaboration with local bodies and government.
The club president, Gelek Gyatso Bhutia, mentioned that a total of 41 riders and officers from Sikkim tourism started their journey on November 28 to participate in the North East Riders’ Meet in Assam and the Hornbill Festival in Nagaland to promote Sikkim tourism.
He added that during the motorcycle ride and events, they are planning to highlight the state’s message of peace, tranquility and unity in diversity. He informed that Sikkim is safe to travel now and appealed the people of Nagaland and other states of North East India to explore the beautiful state of Sikkim.
