Students celebrate cultures on day 2 of Olivian Fest

KOHIMA — The second day of the Olivian Fest 2023 was celebrated as ‘cultural day’ at Mount Olive College, Kohima (MOCK), on Thursday, with students showcasing folk dances, traditional songs, and traditional attire.

Speaking on the occasion, Tokheni Sema, chairperson and managing director of MOCK’s governing body, emphasised the pivotal role of celebrating diversity and urged students to embrace differences and foster an inclusive environment that transcends tribal distinctions.

She underscored the significance of student engagement in building connections across tribal lines.

The guest speaker for the day, Kuputo Achumi, deputy director of Rural Development, urged the students to embrace their culture with pride, noting the value of preserving the ‘God-given heritage’.

Achumi encouraged students to understand the importance of their culture and traditions by stressing five aspects—languages, values and beliefs, symbols, rituals, and norms.

The festival, themed ‘Harmonising arts, igniting passion’, will conclude on November 10.
