Advocate Orenvungo Humtsoe asks Lothas to revive culture

WOKHA — On the third day of the Lothas’ premier festival, Tokhü Emong, which is underway at local ground, Wokha, folk songs, dances, and various group and individual competitions were witnessed.

The day was attended by senior advocate Orenvungo Humtsoe, legal advisor to Lotha Hoho and convener of Tokhü Emong 2023.

Speaking at the event, Humtsoe said that the Lotha tribe is considered one of the advanced tribes with rich cultural practices and expressed joy in celebrating Tokhü Emong with a blend of traditional music, art, and indigenous games with a vision to revive the Lotha Naga culture in order to instil ancestral practices in the younger generation.

He advocated for communicating in and prioritising the mother tongue, citing how the current generation is losing touch with their traditions and how the language, traditional attire, and cultural practices symbolise and represent the Lotha Naga tribe.

He also urged the Lothas to revive their culture. Later in the event, Humtsoe declared the Lotha cultural competitions open.

Lotha folk song, warrior dance, display of Lotha cultivation practices by Lotha Students’ Union, yodelling, and solo singing competitions were among the day’s activities.

The programme was chaired by Thungbeni Ngullie, president of Lotha Eloe Hoho, while Loponi Ezung, women leader of Longsa Baptist Church, said the benediction.
