DIMAPUR — National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, in collaboration with the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) and with the participation of all District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) and line departments, organised an orientation and coordination conference via video conferencing on Friday. The conference was hosted at the National Informatics Centre (NIC) located at the DC’s office in Kohima.
The conference was held as part of its annual event for the upcoming Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx) 2023. The primary objective was to assess the state’s readiness and capacity to respond effectively to various disaster scenarios. NEPEx 2023 would focus on simulating scenarios involving earthquakes and extreme weather conditions, informed a DIPR report.
For Kohima district, it informed that a tabletop exercise has been planned on November 1 in the conference hall of the DC’s office at 11 am. It would be followed with a mock exercise (ME) on November 2. All officials from the DDMA and line departments have been asked to mandatorily attend the table top exercise.
Meanwhile, an orientation and coordination meeting via video conference for the upcoming state-level mock exercise on earthquake disaster was held in the conference hall of the DC’s office in Dimapur on Friday.
During the orientation, the NDMA and SDMA shared details about the upcoming events. It informed that a table top exercise would be held on October 31 followed with a statewide mega mock drill exercise on earthquake disaster for Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx) on November 2.
It stated that the deputy commissioner and chairman of Dimapur district disaster management authority (DDMA), Dr. Tinojongshi Chang; additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Dimapur, Mhalo Humtsoe; sub-divisional officer (SDO), Yanthungbemo Kikon; along with other officials from the district attended the orientation meeting.
It further mentioned that the proactive approach to disaster preparedness has been initiated to ensure safety and readiness of the residents in the face of potential disasters.
