Zhaleo Rio kicks off 52nd CYO Sports Meet
DIMAPUR — Zhaleo Rio, the Advisor for Municipal Affairs and Urban Development, kicked off the 52nd Sports Meet 2023 of the Chakhroma Youth Organisation (CYO) on Saturday at Chümoukedima local ground.
The sports meet will conclude on October 28, with the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, attending the closing ceremony as the guest of honour.
Rio, expressing gratitude to be a part of the meet as a special guest, said on the occasion that the number of teams participating in this event is promising.
He said that Nagas have enormous potential, particularly in football, and cited the example of Dr. T Ao, who captained India’s football team, adding that nothing is above discipline, and a sportsperson must be disciplined in terms of diet, physical fitness, and determination to achieve goals.
He stated that neighbouring Assam, Manipur, and Mizoram are the powerhouses of sports playing at various levels and that Nagas, particularly Tenyimia, play all sports but do not specialise in any, so he urged the gathering to choose one sport to excel in.
Furthermore, he encouraged the athletes to use sports to make a name for themselves, their communities, and the state, rather than making such an event solely a sports festival.
The event includes football and volleyball for both men and women, with the men’s football league matches being held on three different grounds in Chümoukedima and the volleyball competition for both men and women being knockout matches played at the Chümoukedima local ground.
The winner of the men’s football tournament will receive INR 80,000, while the runner-up will receive INR 50,000, and individual prizes will be given to the best goalkeeper, best defender, and top scorer, with each receiving INR 3,000. The player of the tournament will receive INR 5,000.
In the volleyball tournament, the winning men’s and women’s teams will each receive INR 30,000, the runner-up teams will each receive INR 20,000, and the best players in both the men’s and women’s volleyball categories will each receive INR 3,000.
