Governor lauds AR’s role in safeguarding the frontiers

DIMAPUR — Nagaland Governor, La. Ganesan, commended the Assam Rifles in shaping the fabric of India’s defence as the oldest paramilitary force of the country and mentioned that their role in safeguarding the frontiers, particularly in the challenging terrains of the Northeastern region of India is commendation in fortitude itself.

The governor stated this during an investiture ceremony of the Assam Rifles personnel held at Dr. Imkongliba Ao Hall, Raj Bhavan, in Kohima on Saturday. He stated that they have also played a significant role towards peace and prosperity in the region and had worked in close coordination with various other organisations and departments, a press release from Raj Bhavan stated.

On the occasion, the governor felicitated meritorious Assam Rifles personnel with gold and silver medals and the appreciation certificates to AR units for their distinguished service and devotion to duty. He stated that the ceremony magnifies the spirit of service, bravery, and commitment that embodies the armed forces of the country.

The governor appreciated their proactive and people friendly approach over the years as they have constantly proved themselves to be the ‘Friends of the Hill People.’

Addressing to the medal recipients, the governor stated that that their exceptional service and heroism do not just make them recipients of those prestigious awards, but it underscore their undeniable commitment to the great nation. He added that the awards were recognition of their sustained hard work, perseverance and always keeping service before self.

The governor urged them to renew their commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity of Nagaland and India as a whole through collective strength and unity. The governor also shared four interesting characteristics story of “The Mongoose and Snake.”

The governor gave away over 30 individual awards and 4 unit appreciation certificates. The awards consisted of 17 Governor’s gold medal and 13 Governor’s silver medal. The award recipients were 1 AR, 23 AR, 28 AR and 41 AR units.

Report stated that the commandants from four units namely Col. SBB Sharma, Col. Viplove, Col. Deval Dixit, RM Tripathi, officers and wives, IGP (INT) K Martin Pienyu, deputy director of SIB, Kohima, Don K Jose, and other officials from different department attended the programme.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Vikas Lakera, IGAR (North), has acknowledged the governor for sparing his time and also thanked the organisers of the programme. Mentioning that a weapon is to save life and not to kill, he assured the governor that they would stand and commit to their duty for the cause of the people of Nagaland and the nation as a whole.
