Parents told work as partners with school

DIMAPUR — Advisor of Industries and Commerce, Hekani Jakhalu, called upon the parents to involve themselves in nurturing their child and also work as partners with the school for proper growth of children.

“As parents we give the responsibility of the children to teachers and school.  However, it is important that parents are equally involved in nurturing the students. Unless parents become part of the children in their growing, it becomes difficult for the teachers and children to grow,” Jakhalu said.

She stated this during the 25th anniversary celebration of St. Joseph Higher Secondary School in Chümoukedima on Saturday. Jakhalu, who was special guest of the celebration, expressed gratitude to the Catholic institutions for the work in imparting quality education in Nagaland. 

“As we reflect and celebrate the 25 years, it is also time to ponder on the future,” she reminded the school.

Drawing the attention of the students, she stated that hard work is the only one solution to be successful. She added that there is no other option than to work hard to succeed in life.

“As long as one is enjoying what one is doing, that is success in life and parents should not put a benchmark on what they have to do,” the advisor insisted.

The bishop of Kohima diocese, Rev. Fr. James Thoppil, while highlighting the purpose of education ministry, stated that education is transformative-not only individually but the society as well.

The bishop, who was the guest of honour, advised the students to “become transformative agents of the society so that they make a difference to the state.”

The school’s principal, Rev. Fr. Anthony R Dukru, delivered short speech, while the headmistress, Rev. Sr. Maria Goretti Shadap, presented a report.

She informed that the school began in 1998 with 56 students in kindergarten section and now has 2641 students. She stated that 21 students, the first batch of HSLC, passed out in 2009. She added that a total of 1307 students have cleared HSLC till date.

Students of LKG, UKG and classes 1 and 2 presented special items during the programme.
