Rengma Selo Zi appeals for prompt action in NU harassment incident
DIMAPUR — The Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ) has appealed to the concerned authority to intervene and settle the issue related to the alleged harassment and threat to the pro-vice chancellor (PVC) of Nagaland University (NU), Kohima Campus in Meriema, by a group of individuals who were allegedly from Meriema village on October 16.
Condemning the act, the RSZ said in a press release that the PVC of NU Kohima Campus, Prof. GT Thong, holds a senior advisory position with the organization and is a staunch advocate for upholding work ethics and integrity at all levels.
“We fail to understand as to what morale wrong he might have committed to warrant such mistreatment,” it said, adding that the use of threat and intimidation to address issues has no place in a civilised society.
“Any institution or government agency has laid-down protocols that need to be strictly adhered to; so as to remain compatible and relevant to the changing demands of the times and no officer should be penalized for holding on to the etiquette which RSZ believes is made very obvious in the present case,” read the press release.
It further appealed to the appropriate authority to resolve the matter and to ensure that officers are not subjected to such treatment that may discourage them from effectively fulfilling their duties. This, in the long run, would derail the progress of the Naga society, and in this case, stunt the growth of the highest institute of learning in Nagaland, it added.
