DIMAPUR — The Lotha Cultural Resource Centre and Alumni Association of Mt. Tiyi College organised a one-day workshop on October 6 on the theme “Cultural conflicts in modern times.”

Speaking on the Lotha customary laws and practices, Dr. Libemo Kithan, associate professor of History, stated that customary laws and practices are not rigid because unwritten laws differ from village to village and clan to clan and added that there is a conflict when they are produced in written form.

In this regard, he stressed on the need to organise sensitisation programme, campaign and public awareness mechanism to educate the public on the fundamental principles of customary laws.

An update from the college stated that a demonstration on the usages and significance of Lotha cultural attire was presented by R Zuchopeni Ezong, former president of Lotha Eloe Hoho.

It stated that Thungjamo Odyuo, member of board of directors of Lotha Academy, spoke on the importance and significance of mother tongue. According to him, the issue is a matter of great concern because the native languages are losing importance in today’s society.

The highlights of the programme included the installation of a new team of alumni office bearers by Dr. Renthungo Patton, assistant professor of Economics.
