Kohima businesses burdened by philanthropic drives, says KCCI
DIMAPUR — The Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has lamented that the capital’s business community is under tremendous stress and burden as a result of patronising numerous philanthropic and charity deeds.
Mentioning that it is fatigued by the numerous yearly collections carried out by various elements, a note from the KCCI stated that, to add salt to the wound of the business community, there are buffets, concerts, dinner packs, lotteries, raffles, calendars, fundraisers, and other multiple drives.
It stressed that these collections have not only drained the business community economically but also emotionally and psychologically, and the modus operandi of coercing is being adopted to fleece out the businessmen of hard-earned money.
KCCI also added that despite all of the odds they had to face, they had always intended to offer quality products at reasonable prices, but the exaction on the traders leads to the parting away of large chunks of one’s livelihood.
While encouraging its members to be generous in their gestures of goodwill in order to foster a healthy relationship with the public, it also reminded everyone that businesses cannot be viewed as charity baskets where everyone or anyone is entitled to a portion.
