Pochury community celebrates ‘Yemüshe’ with traditional fervour

DIMAPUR — Pochury community celebrated its premier festival ‘Yemüshe’ with traditional fervour in Meluri town on October 3 with the minister of Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye, as the special guest.

A DIPR report stated that ‘Yemüshe’ is celebrated from October 1 to the 5th. The annual festival marks the joyous welcome of the new harvest, the result of a year’s hard labour and to invoke divine blessings for bountiful crops.

The minister was accompanied by MLA Dr. Neisatuo, DC of Phek, SP of Phek, Commandant 5th NAP, SP of Shamator, director of Tourism and several government officials from Kohima and Phek. Major General Vikas Lakhera, IGAR (North), along with commandant of 38 AR and other army officers joined in the festival.

The festival showcased the rich cultural heritage of Pochury through captivating folk dances and melodious tunes performed by cultural troupes representing MAPO, KAPO, ARPO, PAPO, and PPO. The day’s highlights included demonstrations of traditional salt-making and pottery techniques, preserving the age-old traditions of the region.

An exciting archery competition was also held, wherein the first arrow was shot by the minister followed by advisor Z Ntusietho Nyuthe and MLA Dr. Neisatuo.

With over five thousand people in attendance, report stated that ‘Yemüshe’ festival served as a vibrant platform for the Pochury community to come together, celebrate their cultural identity, and express gratitude for a bountiful harvest.

The programme was chaired by Chonpa, jury president of Pochury Hoho.
