Different organisations celebrate Gandhi Jayanti in Diphu

DIPHU — Along with the rest of the country, different organisations in Diphu town commemorated the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Monday.

The Diphu Municipal Board (DMB) organised a celebration at Gandhi Park, Diphu bus stand, where MP Horensing Bey, accompanied by Diphu Municipal Board chairman Rah Kro and district commissioner Madhumita Bhagawati, garlanded a Mahatma Gandhi statue and paid floral tribute.

The MP said in his speech that it is a privilege to pay tribute to and honour the great leader who fought for and achieved India’s independence.

On the occasion, he stated that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken concern to solve the problems of cleaners (sweepers) in towns, and the DMB, in recognition of their work in keeping the town clean, felicitated them.

The SHG members under the Day-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) and Assam State Urban Livelihoods Mission (ASULM) of DMB took out a procession in the Diphu market and created swacchhata awareness, commemorating the day.

The 154th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the 119th birth anniversary of India’s second Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri, were commemorated at the West Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee office (WKADCC).

Sing Teron, president of the WKADCC, led the floral tribute, which was joined by party members.

Teron said on the occasion that good days will come soon as the INDIA block is set to win the upcoming Lok Sabha election in the country. The district party president also said that ahead of the elections, party workers from other parties will join Congress.

Several senior party workers and leaders attended the celebration.
