Nagaland organises social work as part of Swachhata Pakhwada

DIMAPUR — As a part of Swachhata Pakhwada-Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2023, mass cleanliness drives were carried out in different districts across Nagaland on Saturday. The events were held on Saturday and not on October 1 as proposed by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.

Tuensang: Along with the rest of the state, Tuensang district observed Swachhata Pakhwada-Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) by organising a cleanliness drive in Tuensang town on Saturday.

Speaking before the commencement of the social work, the deputy commissioner of Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, expressed gratitude to those who have come forward to take part in the social work. She has reminded the participants to always remember the maxim ‘My waste, my responsibility’ to make their surroundings clean.

The cleanliness drive was participated by all the staff of government departments, students and members from the wards, 28 Assam Rifles and business establishment.

Phek: A mass cleanliness drive was held in Phek headquarters under the initiative of the deputy commissioner of Phek, Kuko Mero.

All the government employees and residents participated in the social by cleaning their respective office premises and all the colonies and wards. It added that shopkeepers also participated in the drive by cleaning the surroundings in and around their respective shops.

Wokha: The deputy chief minister in-charge of Home department, Y Patton, participated in the mass social work held in Wokha town. The deputy chief minister was accompanied by the deputy commissioner of Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, government officials, public leaders and other political parties including BJP and NDPP.

Patton has thanked all the participants and urged them to keep their surroundings clean on daily basis. He also inspected the ongoing construction of new SP office site and urged the contractor to complete the building by March 2024.

Zunheboto: Students and citizens of Zunheboto participated in the cleanliness drive as part of Swachhata Pakhwada-Swachhata hi Seva (SHS) at Zunheboto headquarters on September 30.

Niuland: As part of the Swachhata Pakhwada-Swachhata Hi seva, a mass social work was conducted in Niuland town on September 30.

Tening: Residents of Tening town in Peren district participated in a massive cleanliness drive on September 30. It stated that all the citizens of Tening town including members from educational institutions, religious organisations, civil society, administrations and youth took active part in the social work.

Medziphema: As part of Swacchata Hi Seva, residents of Medziphema sub-division conducted a mass social work on September 30.

People from different sections, educational institutions, NGO, government departments both state and central along with village leaders came together to clean streets, public space and surrounding areas.

Tizit: Tizit Town Council (TTC) organised a mass social work as part of Swachhata League 2.0 of Swachhata Pakhwada on September 30.

It stated that staff from ADC office, DBs, police personnel under SDPO Tizit and NCC from GHSS Tizit led by ADC and administrator of Tizit Town Council (TTC), Zhoi Lohe, cleaned the welcome gate and bazaar area.

Besides, people from all walks of life participated in the social work by cleaning their respective offices, institutions, establishments and residential areas.

Meluri: A mass social work was also conducted in Meluri town under Phek district as part of Swachhata Hi Seve campaign on September 30. All government employees, students and public of Meluri town participated in cleaning their respective schools and offices.

Longleng: Longleng district administration observed the Swachhata Pakhwada Swachhata Hi Seva campaign by organising cleanliness drive in Longleng town. Representatives from Longleng district administration, Longleng Town Council (LTC), wards, government officials, NGOs and the citizens took part in the cleanliness drive.

About 2000 persons participated in the cleanliness drive.

Education dept.: In an effort to promote cleanliness and hygiene, schools in Nagaland joined hands in a massive cleanliness drive on September 30. Students along with teachers and staffs actively participated in the social work.

The cleanliness drive was conducted focusing on cleaning and branding all sanitation assets like litter bins and toilets in the school, removal of all single-use plastic and segregation of waste etc.

NU: The vice chancellor of Nagaland University (NU) led the faculty and student in the cleanliness drive on September 30. It stated that all campuses observed mass cleanliness drive.

NU chief coordinator of the cleanliness programme, Dr. Likhase Sangatam, informed that more than 500 members including teachers, employees and students in all the campuses of the university participated in the cleanliness drive.
